What are the differences between fashion designers and managers in Europe and the USA? What companies hire them in each region?

In Europe, fashion designers are often highly trained and educated in specific design schools, such as Central Saint Martins in London or the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. These designers are often associated with specific fashion houses or luxury brands, such as Chanel, Dior, or Gucci.

In the United States, fashion designers often come from a more diverse background and may not have the same level of formal education as European designers. There are many designer labels in the US, but the industry is dominated by large companies, such as Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger.

Regarding managers, in Europe, the management structure in fashion companies is often more hierarchical and centralized, with a strong focus on luxury and heritage. In the US, management structures tend to be more decentralized and focused on fast fashion, and a more commercial approach.

Companies that hire fashion designers and managers in Europe include luxury brands like Chanel, Dior, Gucci, Prada, and Louis Vuitton, as well as high-end fashion houses like Alexander McQueen, Burberry and Givenchy. In the United States, fashion designers and managers are employed by companies such as Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, and Michael Kors, as well as fast-fashion retailers like Forever 21, H&M, and Zara.
